Jute Rugs

Floor rugs come in all sorts of material be it natural or synthetic. One type of natural rug material that you can find in stores today is jute. Jute rugs are receiving attention from many homeowners as they are natural and can make any home look attractive.

Jute is actually a long, shiny and soft vegetable fiber which can be spun into coarse but strong threads. It is a truly affordable fiber and comes in second after cotton, in terms of the amount produced and the variety of uses. Jute is partially wood and partially textile fiber. This material has long been used to make coarse cloth and material for sacks. Very fine threads of jute are also used in making imitation silk.

In terms of floor coverings, jute has also long been utilized as hessian cloth, scrim, canvas and carpet backing. As a carpet backing cloth, jute is used as a tufting surface and as a secondary backing or an overlay. As a rug material, jute is a good choice as it is all natural, strong and durable. It is also UV resistant, and anti static which make great features for a rug at home.

Another attraction of the jute rug is that it is easy to clean and maintain. All you need is regular sweeping with a broom. Or better yet, take it outside and give the rug a good shaking. However if you have major stains on your rug, then perhaps you may need professional help. When you use a jute rug, it is also recommended that you use a rug pad, as this will help avoid skidding.

As area rugs, jute can be woven, tufted and piled. Most of these jute rugs are woven in India. Today, these rugs come in many different styles and designs, with the use of different weaves either power loomed or hand loomed. Sometimes jute is also used in a blend with other materials like sisal, sea grass, wool and cotton. No matter what style and design you like, you can always find a jute rug that will suit your tastes. Choose from oriental, contemporary, transitional, shag, southwestern, animal print, novelty, striped or even solid style jute rugs for your home.

Today, we are lucky to be able to find many different types of jute rugs in the market. These rugs can be purchased almost anywhere and are available in stores as well as online. This is good news as no matter where you are in the world, you can still get to enjoy the beauty of the jute rug.
