Leather Shag Rug

There are so many types of floor rugs that you can find today. Out of all these myriad of rugs, there are some that provide you with not only a great visual impact but also provide an extraordinary tactile experience. You must already be familiar with the shaggy puffy rug by now. Due to its appearance, this rug is known as the shag rug.

These shag rugs have been around since the 60s. Today they exist in more contemporary designs compared to those found back then. These rugs can be found in a variety of materials, such as wool, cotton, linen and other synthetic materials. However one of the most interesting types of shags has to be the leather shag rug.

The leather shag rug is a beauty as it looks classic and timeless. Plus you can never go wrong with leather, as leather exudes an aura of elegance and refinement. These shaggy floor rugs are either made from natural leather or suede leather. As such they are dense and plush and are totally comfortable. They have a soft sultry feel about them.

Leather shag rugs can be found in all sorts of shapes and sizes, from small to medium to larger floor rugs that you can use around the home. They are also available in neutral and somber colors like dark rich browns, reds, black and even white. Thanks to these colors these shag rugs look great in any traditional setting but then again, they can also work in any contemporary room.

One thing about these leather shag rugs is that they are not meant for areas which receive high traffic and constant wear. These rugs would be better off placed in areas that receive very little foot traffic, as leather rugs are more delicate then wool area rugs. So you should avoid using them in hallways and living rooms, unless your living room is rarely used. Instead use these area rugs in your home office, study or library. You can even use them in your bedroom.

The disadvantage to the leather shag rug is it can cost you quite a bit, and it can be hard to maintain. The rug needs proper care and maintenance to ensure that it always looks its best. When using the leather shag rug in the home, try to periodically rotate your rug to ensure there is even wear. Also, you need to get your rug professionally cleaned every two years. This can add to the cost of maintaining the rug.

A leather shag rug looks fabulous in any home. With proper care and maintenance, your rug can retain its beauty and give you years of comfort and style.
