Throw Rugs
There are many types of floor coverings that are available today and these include carpets and
rugs. As we are all aware, rugs can come in many different sizes and shapes. There are many different types of rugs too, ranging from the fairly
common area rug to the animal skin rugs, and from runner rugs to stair runners, to large round rugs to outdoor rugs.
Another type of floor rugs that are really versatile is the throw rug.
Throw rugs are also known as scatter rugs. Compared to the other types of rugs available out there, these rugs are smaller in size. They are used
to cover a small part of the floor. They can also be used on top of wall-to-wall carpeting to add an extra bit of warmth and comfort.
A throw rug can be used on its own in a room or a small space. You can also use several throw rugs
in one area to make the area look more interesting while adding to the level of coziness. Besides adding color and character, a throw rug can
immediately open up a room by being the focal point of the room. You can also use a throw rug to tie up all the decorative elements in the room
and unify the look of the space.
Throw rugs can be found in many materials, and each material has its own advantage. You can pick
from natural fibers like cotton, wool, silk, jute, or sisal. You can even choose
throw rugs made from synthetic materials like acrylic, nylon and polypropylene. Whatever material you pick, a throw rug can certainly enhance the
look of your home, indoors and outdoors.
To pick a throw rug for your home, first of all think about the space that you have in mind. Now,
look at all the patterns on the upholstery and on your drapes. You want to pick something that will not clash with the room. If you have a busy
wallpaper or upholstery for your sofas and armchairs, you need a throw rug that is less busy in terms of patterns. If your walls and upholstery
are more subdued, then you can pick a throw rug with busier patterns.
Now think about what the focal point should be. If you want your throw rug to be the focal point
then choose a rug with a central medallion pattern. If you want your focal point to be elsewhere then you should pick a rug with repetitive
motifs or patterns, and one without a medallion.
What about the function of the room? Is this area a high traffic area? For a high traffic area you
may want to look at throw rugs with more detailed patterns. This will mean lower maintenance for your rug. Also think about the effect that you
want for that room. A light colored throw rug will immediately open up the space and make it look more spacious.
On the other hand, a darker throw rug will make the space look cozier.
When getting throw rugs, it is possible to use several rugs in one large room. You don’t have to
use the same two rugs or even two rugs of the same pattern. What you can do is get different patterned rugs that have colors that coordinate with
one another.
When it comes to shape and size, if you place two throw rugs of the same size in a room, they may
end up dividing the room in half. What you should do however is to get rugs with different sizes, so that you can create a more interesting
visual display with the contrast. You can get the manufacturers’ help in this matter as most of the manufacturers today specifically design
several throw rugs in coordinating colors and sizes for the home.
Throw rugs can be easily used in the home. They can be matched and coordinated with other
area rugs and runners to create a polished look for the home.
